<br />
You can get away with your regular backpack, shirt and jeans when hiking but your footwear - might be sandals, rubber shoes, boots, or trail running shoes can spell a happy times on the trail or just plain pain disaster.<br />
<br />

Just like with most of those who are just started hiking - back then Facebook groups are not created yet. We are just getting information from our main source - Pinoymountaineer.com. Now, i think the site are not popular anymore and not often visited by those who wants to hike. They will just join the FB groups, ask questions there ,hoping someone will answer, then voila , they are mountaineer. And when they descend the mountain, they are now organizer.<br />
<br />

Going back to finding footwear - Merrell was popular here. They are everywhere, you can purchase them at any shoe store, and they are always on sale. I have my own experience with the shoes. They are great at first , however when you are gaining experience and experiencing a lot of different trails, you will then need a shoes with better grip. I have my own fail moments finding whats works for me. I have purchased columbia, teva and the north face they are okay with some trails, but it is failed on most difficult terrain.<br />
<br />

I searched online for months reading reviews online.I need to find the shoes that can withstand the trail of Mt Talomo to Mt Apo and Mt Kalatungan traverse continuously. Then came Inov-8.<br />
<br />
It was my first time to come across the brand. I never heard of it before. The first model I have was the Inov-8 rocklite 295. What impressed me and sold me was the outsole. You can tell that I will have the greatest traction and grip that can help you finished the brutal trail and unimaginable obstacles you will find on the mountain trail.<br />
<br />
I have not put the shoes in break in period. I wear it right away in Mt Talomo - Mt Apo traverse. For anyone who have finished that traverse can tell that it have a challenging and brutal trail. That time, there was a lot of section where the shoes was subside on the ankle deep mud. There was a lot of time you need to walk on the mossy covered trunk trees. Passed trough a lot of roots and wet and dried leaves and the rocky trail of Mt Apo to cover all your imagined trail sections.<br />
<br />
I finished the trail with the shoes passed in flying colors. Rest for 2 days then hike up again in the jungle forest of Mt Kalatungan.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Inov8 Race Ultra 290</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The rocklite 295 exceeds my expectation. I was really happy with the shoes performance. I was very confident and comfortable to all trail sections even on the infamous dead toe's trail of Mt Kalatungan. I used it in Kitanglad, Dulang Dulang, Maagnaw, Lumot Sumagaya, Hibok Hibok, Halcon, Sicapoo, Pulag, Tabayoc, Kibungan, Kanlaon, Talinis, Pinatubo and other Peaks and trail as well.<br />
<br />
I have hiked with the shoes in most difficult mountain in Mindanao except in White peak as it hit by Storm Pablo at that time. I know it can survive the trail of Guiting Guiting and Mantalingajan the two mountains mentioned by every one else as the most difficult mountain we have.<br />
<br />
Since I have first hand experienced with the brand. I recommend it to my team. The only downside is , Inov8 is not widely available here. There is only one store that carries it at the moment - it was Sportshouse and not all the models are available here.<br />
<br />
If you need a new shoes, or planning to switch shoes, I highly recommend you try Inov-8. Our team have hiked with it on most of the mountain in Benguet and we are not disappointed. You just need to find the model that fits you. We all have different foot type - wide, flat, thin etc. We all have preferences - color, looks and budget.<br />
<br />
If your looking for recommendation in facebook group about the shoes - please check if the person who recommends you to buy something actually used it on the toughest mountain, not only in batulao or any rizal mountains - you can easily get away with your regular rubber shoes on it.<br />
<br />
What we can recommend, what ever shoes you choose to wear, make sure that it have a good grip otherwise - epic fail.<br />

<br />
There are many groups who already completed this major dayhike, yet there are no accounts of their journey was written. I just found one blog who shared the story.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ztFdWTlDqQ/WOm-TXJ-aaI/AAAAAAAANp8/P1huerYB47A4h1Wbvoy-dJljC0NcqbSAACEw/s1600/20170319_083658.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5ztFdWTlDqQ/WOm-TXJ-aaI/AAAAAAAANp8/P1huerYB47A4h1Wbvoy-dJljC0NcqbSAACEw/s320/20170319_083658.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
We are confident that we can complete this traverse knowing that most in our group already completed some major dayhikes with me. And those new in the team are showing great potentials to be mountain crazy ready.<br />
<br />
One of the factors to be considered to complete the climb and not to be too late to finished was to start as early as possible. And that can be accomplished only if all of you agreed on the desired meet up time.<br />
<br />
We arrived in Kayapa at 4:00am. Our guide is alredy there. After a few minutes to prepare, we prayed then start our hike.<br />
<br />
The first part of the journey was all uphill. Entering the narrow path which the locals used, then a few minutes we arrived at the pine forest trail.<br />
<br />
For every climb the hardest part is the first part - your muscle is not awake, your lungs is not yet fully activated and somehow you feel sleepy.<br />
<br />

During this moment, sometimes you will ask yourself what is the reason why you are still hiking. For me, I hike not to add to my personal peaks , but to bring my friends to the summit. Seeing they are painfully enjoying the hike fulfilled my self accomplishment.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The open trail to Domolpos ( Pics from Raffy)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
We arrived in Indupit Village just before the sun shines at 6:50am. We rest , re-filled our water supply and bond. From here the trail was mostly straight forward and it is the best to rest your legs , catch up your breathe and take up your pace.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We are blessed because the sun is not that hot, mostly the skies are covered with clouds. So we hiked up with eased. Catch up with one another, shared a laughter, capture some beautiful views along the trail.<br />

At 10:20am we arrived in Domolpos waiting shed. It is now all up hill. Slowly, by keeping one feet ahead of the other, we reached the campsite at 11:40am and reached the Mt Ugo marker at 12pm.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Group picture (pics from Raffy )</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
We took our lunch at the summit. Rest, Photo-ops, take a nap , recharge our energy. I know that the real challenge here is the descend from the summit all the way to the exit point.<br />
<br />
We start our descend at 1:15pm . Once again we are mesmerized by the beauty that surrounds us as we emerged to the fine forest under the cold sunny weather. This was the most beautiful part of the Mt Ugo traverse. The trail going to tinongdan. Pine forest and Mountain Peaks are every where.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Captured by Donners</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
It was a continuous descend and some time rolling terrain. We arrived in Km 3 at 6:00 pm just before the sun sets and the darkness creeps in.<br />
<br />
We know that there are an hour or so to reach the hanging bridge in km 0. We decide that it would be practical not to proceed to km 0 but to ask our van to pick us up along the way to Km 3.<br />
<br />
Thus the adventure ends.<br />
<br />

Our Team was always looking for a new peak to summit or new challenges to have.Well it is our just an excuse to be together and to catch up with one another. Since mostly we have climbed some of the major mountains in Benguet, its time to have a chill up climb where we can just relax and enjoy the view. Mt Ulap is also a great mountain to hike, however there are just too many people hiking it because it is too easy and many people just jumping into bandwagon joining an organized climb, with just an hour away to Baguio, it is just a perfect destination to even to just plain tourist.<br />

<div>
We started our hike in the darkness, With our headlamp on, we slowly trekked to the straight forward path until we reached the steel bridge. We picked up our guide then we continue our hike with just the light from our headlamp showing us the way. Slowly and continuously the trail was getting steeper. We were greeted by the sun just when the open trail begins and it was all up hill. There was a water source just before you hike up, and there is also another water source near the camp site. So keep that in mind for your hydration strategy. </div>

<div>
We are in awe to witness the grand beauty of the mountain as it was slowly shines in the ray of the sun. There are mountain peaks and river that you can see while hiking up on an open trail. This is also one advantage of hiking early, you are almost midway to your destination when the sun hits on you, and you are getting back when the heat was on its peak. </div>

Meaning, if they can run it fast, we can hike it slow. So I coordinated with him to ask about all the necessary information to make the dayhike a success.<br />
<br />
Once I gathered the logistics, I look for the contacts in Barlig. More importantly the guide who will join us on this never heard quest. Funny, I found the contact in Facebook when carrot man was viral. I saw the picture of him posting in Barlig Police Station. I made the necessary inquiry, good people point me to the person who can help me made this journey complete.<br />

So you see, We make this climb happen without help of a well known mountaineering group and individuals. We are just a bunch of newbie, shy type, all have a regular day jobs. We are all just love the outdoors and new challenges. We just all finished some Cordillera Mountains, so we all know each other's capability and strength on the trail. And most of all - We trust and care for each other and our bond is strong enough to believe in one another.<br />
<br />
We could have finished up to Batad as we arrived in Cambulo at 5 pm with still an hour or more daylight. We are all feel good, We still have supplies , no one in the team have injury or even a blister. Meaning, If we choose to proceed to Batad, we can actually do so. However due to landslide that happened in Barlig, We were faced with unexpected problem, that needed our attention. That issue was delayed us for one night. We'll that's part of life, sometimes you just move on, think of what to do next and still have fun. All of us have a great mind set, no one sulk in bitterness as most if not all of us will be absent on Monday.<br />

Why ? Because I have only 2 days off and of course there are other things I want to do beside spending it on the Mountain tops. There are other important things to do, to focus on and to spend time with. Thus, If the summit can be reach in one day, then Ill do it and find someone who would join me.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thus, having doing it for years, I might or might not found ways of doing it more efficiently and to know the necessary and useful gears to bring on day hikes. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This works for me on major and minor mountains alike, it might work for you as well, or you might found something useful to add to your gear list.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My Day Hike Essential Gears not necessarily in order of their importance. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. Umbrella - This is very useful for both rainy and sunny condition. It will reduce the amount of heat your body is absorbing on a very sunny day that can save you from being insane from the heat and from having a heat stroke. This is very useful also on rainy days without strong winds. IT blocks the rain from making you too wet and also have the ability to protect your packs if you forgot to water proof your gear. The umbrella also keeps you dry after the climb and to you travel going home. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. Headlamp / Flashlight - Even the very minor day hike can go wrong. Shit happens out there so it would be useful to have a means to light your way when the darkness creeps in.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. Nutrition and Hydration - Foods for your energy and water for your hydration. Always research in advance the available water source on the trail for you not to bring too much water. Water is heavy. </div>
<div>
If you find the nutrition of trail runners, they dont rely on jelly ace for their fuels , the same should be applied to hikers. And also, do not bring your 1 liter Nalgene bottles on day hikes as it was bulky. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4. First Aid Kit - Basic medicine will do. I always bring loperamide and ibuprofen</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5. Disposable poncho - To complement the umbrella if the wind is too strong. Also poncho can keep you warm on a cold dark days. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
6. Cellphone with load- I always turn off my phone on a day hike. I just turn it on on breaks. So I do not need to carry an extra weight by bringing a power bank. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
7. Lightweight fleece - Depends on the mountain and season- if it is nearby and can be finished in 6 to 10 hours I will not bring it. If the Mountain is on Cordillera Region and in Mindanao I will packed it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
8. Shades - To protect your eyes from the sun. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
9. Headwear / Buff - Multiple use. On all my climb day hikes or not, I do not bring a bath towel. Headwear is enough. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
10. Slippers - Nothing can give you much comfort after a long and hard day's on the mountain than removing your shoes and socks and slip on your slipper. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
11. Plastic Bags / Black bags - Plastic bags can be use to water proof your gears and clothes and for your trash and for your dirty clothes and shoes. Black Bags can also be used as windbreaker. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
12. Tissue ( Wet or Dry ) - You never know when you might need to use it, better be ready. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Always use your common sense on what to bring. Research the mountain first and you will enjoy your hike more.. </div>
<div>

<br />
Yes, there are lot of interest focus now in hiking or backpacking, as all the information now can be easily get on the internet. If you are just plain lazy like the most, you just post your questions on the Facebook group and hope you can find what your looking for or there are someone interested to answer your post.<br />
<br />
I have been lucky to be able to complete the Great Cordillera Traverse individually just before the hiking booms. Those are the days that Facebook group is not that big, we are just relying on Pinoy Mountaineer and some other hiking blogs for itinerary and contacts. Some contacts are not active, so you will do the hard part trying to gather information on different sources. I have been established contacts trough Department of Tourism, Local Government and even just a mere local of that place. I have successfully organized my climb from Luzon to Mindanao without doing a pre-climb meeting, but I am always hiking with a small group that might differ from your way of doing things.<br />
<br />
I have a lot of respect and thanks to our Old School Mountaineers, without them we might not have been inspired to follow their footsteps. However, we are just to concern about the good old days, the glory days of external backpacks, maong shorts, cotton shirts, hiking boots etc, can you imagine yourself now with that gear ?<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y-Lyxloj0kg/Vrf2_ngCuPI/AAAAAAAAMwY/bu-5cS79iBo/s1600/1959899_4055343160024_707390745_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y-Lyxloj0kg/Vrf2_ngCuPI/AAAAAAAAMwY/bu-5cS79iBo/s320/1959899_4055343160024_707390745_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Margaja Valley</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Technology was created to make our life better, for us to be able to connect with the world much easier and faster. Can you think or organizing a climb now without internet, without mobile phones ? Before you need to do a long distance call if you plan to gather information or to set up a climb outside metro manila. Now, trough Facebook messenger and text messaging we can connect without much cost and effort.<br />
<br />
In terms of gears, lightweight packs, technical shirts, light weight and trail specific shoes are created so that we can enjoy the outdoors more. Indeed, you can still wear your combat shoes or your chuck taylor and take a lot of selfies , no one will damn care.<br />
<br />
About the trail traffic, it is the hiker's choice to start early or start late, or as sir Gidz said, climb somewhere else. We cannot tell others not to climb the mountain because our group will climb it, your only choice was to start early you that you will be ahead of them when they are just starting.<br />
<br />
The hiking boom creates more income to the community and weekend jobs to the locals. We should be thankful that they have now means to feed their family or to support whatever needs they have. Of course for the hard headed and self concern individuals, they always have the habit of finding fault, seeing the negative effects, take pictures , post it on Facebook attitude. Remember if your not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UZETeCRk9Pc/Vrf2ZaQZ8ZI/AAAAAAAAMwY/heHOcyiW7UA/s1600/10846213_10200143540429328_1891574637212901992_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UZETeCRk9Pc/Vrf2ZaQZ8ZI/AAAAAAAAMwY/heHOcyiW7UA/s320/10846213_10200143540429328_1891574637212901992_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">No Trail Traffic here. (Trail connecting Dulang to Maagnaw )</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
One more thing, nothing drives me crazy than seeing a lot of Hugot post shit. No one cares about your bitterness, negative thoughts, and self pity , why post it on Facebook to gather sympathy and attention. You climb mountains, go places with that shit and you are just infecting others who are just trying to have a good time with people, places and themselves. No one really cares if you dont have your Forever, or you just lost your Forever, We all have shits to deal with so your self pity and bitterness can just add to what we already have. Why most of us are just to damn dependent on other person for our happiness ? Cant you just let go and move on? Just accept it and move on with your life, If you are worth it, someone will come along eventually and make your adventure comes true. No one wants to be with the persons who just complaining, who are wallowing in self pity, revenge, negative thoughts and habits. Cant we just climb on a good frame of mind? Cant we just go places just to enjoy it and enjoy it with the people around us ? Just leave your self inflicted pain and bitterness just deal with it again once your at home.<br />
<br />
I have been blessed to have friends who somehow have the same thoughts as I have. We all have problems, issues, pain, disappointment , relationship failure, difficulty connecting to other people and yet when we are together we just enjoy that we are once again on the mountains and places and do not bring negative thoughts and energy among ourselves. Once we get back to our personal lives, we deal with it on our own. Of course we talked and shared about our personal problems with our friends, we just dont let the world know about it.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AJWLQNW87y8/Vrf4Q1q4iZI/AAAAAAAAMwg/KbM_rnJOiKE/s1600/12592480_10205617798832234_7286332063672744412_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AJWLQNW87y8/Vrf4Q1q4iZI/AAAAAAAAMwg/KbM_rnJOiKE/s320/12592480_10205617798832234_7286332063672744412_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My Friends on top of Mt Napulauan. (picture courtesy of xa-an)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Just climb and enjoy it. Enjoy the people you are hiking with. Make new friends, strengthen the bond with your old friends, Enjoy the places , share stories with the locals. Make friend with your guides and porters, talk to them and soon you will find new meaning in your hiking and adventure life.<br />

Mt Napulauan DayhikeWe all have favorite Peaks to climb. It might be the view from the top, the challenges, the trail itself or the locals you met that wants you to go back. It might be a different reason, personal or what-nots we all have reasons to try to summit again the same mountain.<br />
<br />
I have first climbed Mt Napulauan in 2012. This is my first mossy forest encounter and the moments and feelings I have inside the mountain lingers with me for so long. Since then, I had been to many enchanting forest and deep jungle floor, and nothing can compare to the same thrill I have for the first time I engulfed in the forest of Mt Napulauan.<br />

I have been wanting to go back for the past few years. However, something along the way keeps on aborting the plan. Now, with the right team with me and maybe it is now the right time. We make it happened. This time it is only on a day hike.<br />

Day hiking a major mountain is not to popular in our society. Many wants to sleep on the campsite or the peaks. Many just wants to experience more of nature, some just wants to drink and be merry at the campsite. Fortunately for me, I have found friends who share the same thoughts with me. We can still experience the mountain without camping or spending the night on the campsite. For this,we can just carry less foods and supplies, thus makes our journey lighter, and somehow faster than carrying a full pack.<br />
<br />
We stayed at the Municapal Hostel in Hungduan. We spend our first day, bonding and connecting with each other. And this experience made us all closer and comfortable with one another, even after the climb, we are still connected as friends.<br />
<br />

</tbody></table>
We start to hike at 3:30am with light drizzle and morning cold. Slowly but continuously ascending, made our body warmth and shortly thereafter we remove our jackets. We did not witness yet the grand forest of the mountain because its too dark yet. Our headlamps only lights our way up. With continuously putting foot on top of another, we reached the summit a few minutes after 9am. We dont have a sea of clouds or clearing to have a great view on top. However reaching the summit is just a reward in itself. The view is just a bonus. We ate our foods and at 10am we start to descend via the same trail. We did not push on our plan to either hapao or balentimol falls exit, because it keeps raining at the time, and it will be dangerous for us if we proceed to Balentimol falls as the trail, according to our guides was steep and slippery, and they also opposed us on the said plan of traverse.<br />

</tbody></table>
Our descend is much faster, it only takes us less than 4 hours to go down. The trail was wet and muddy as most of us fell a few times. We just carry on and continue moving as its beginning to get cold due to continuous rain.<br />
<br />
We all arrived in Hungduan Jump off wet and cold, but still laughing and smiling as we talked our experiences on the trail.<br />
<br />
They say its about the view, sea of clouds, mountains nearby or some others things you fancy every time you hike.<br />
<br />
For us, its all about the people your hiking with. Its all about the connection and friendship you build along the way that really matters. Someday, we can forget all about the views and challenges that the mountain brings, but the people we have shared the journey with, will forever stay in our hearts and mind long before the journey ends.<br />

This was my second time to join Conquer's organized event, the first was 25km in Tanay Rizal last September of 2015.<br />
<br />
Standing on the starting line with some known names and faces in the trail running community might give you chill or inspiration what ever you want it to be. Sure, there are lots of strong and dedicated runners, however, I just want to run and experience the fun, rather than to compete. For this race, I experience to get cramps in my left calves early on, just after I enter the trail going to Paniquian falls. I just walked with the pain reaching the falls and rest a little on the aid stations, as I know it will be all uphill until the summit.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">At the starting line</td></tr>

As I reached the summit the pain subsides and I descend with much faster pace and confident only to be affected by cramps again this time in my right leg. I just smiled and continue to descend walking slowly until I reached Papaya River.<br />

From Papaya river, I have no options but to continue walking to the finish line with my right leg still in pain.<br />

I reached the finish line after 7 hours and 30 minutes.<br />

The event was well organized. There are lot of trail markers, local support, event marshall, first aider, and photographer.<br />

</div>
I first heard the dont look back trail when a race was organize in Mt Balagbag. I have been to the mountain a number of times as it was near to my location and the expenses is less than P200 pesos only. I am not aware that there are longer trail connecting to Mt Lubog and traversing to San Isidro Montalban or going back to the Mt Balagbag area via a circuit. There are 2 circuit trail there. One is the easy but much longer trail, and the other one is called Dont Look Back, as it was a cardiac assault on the loose soil and ridges under the heat and humidity.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Dont look Back trail </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I have been scouting this trail for 3 weekends now. First I try to find the trail connecting to Mt Lubog, then another weekend, me and my friends try to find it again, only to our disappointment that we end up on a different trail - the longer trail leading to San Isidro, and the other one connecting to dont look back on the left side of the trail is exiting to Balagbag Area, on the left going up is the Dont look back trail exiting to registration going to helipad.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B54JGJ0VV54/Vkky6FH_ChI/AAAAAAAAMp4/Xcu5TTavD3Q/s1600/11223994_10201306437341024_3635115139970796346_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B54JGJ0VV54/Vkky6FH_ChI/AAAAAAAAMp4/Xcu5TTavD3Q/s320/11223994_10201306437341024_3635115139970796346_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As far as I know the trail is only used by locals and trail runners, there are no hikers yet passing by on that trail. All hikers are either going to Mt Maranat or the Helipad to camp and spend the night there.<br />

Mt kupapey is located in Maligcong Bontoc. It is now gaining popularity trough the internet as per Ate Suzette, owner of the homestay, every week they have a visitor wanting to set foot on top of the mountain and witness the beauty of it. They are not allowing overnight stay on the mountain to protect its natural state and beauty.<br />

The trek going to the falls is easier because its all downhill, we all know that going back will be of a challenge because it will now be all uphill. We bask into the cold water of tappiyah falls, enjoy the view and calm scenery and then we proceed to our main destination. From the town of Bontoc, the road going to Maligcong and Suzette's Homestay was all uphill.<br />
<br />
Ate Suzette is a very hospitable host, she makes sure all our needs are being attended. She also told us that she is not used of seeing the guest to cook for themselves. Having met new faces who are all fun to begin with makes this trip an awesome one.<br />
<br />
The trek is very easy, you can actually do it in less than an hour fast pace but for a relaxing walk, within 2 hours will do.<br />
<br />
The top of kupapey can rival the view in Kiltepan peak of Sagada.. Great view, Morning fogs, Sea of clouds with no crowds..<br />

After our climb in MT Mingan last June, I have not been hiking since then. With all the shit and drama happening in the Mountaineering scene, I have ventured to another sport - Trail Running.<br />
<br />
I already tried trail running last 2012, having participated for 2 years in Merrel Adventure run and a 25km in Valley trail challenge. This year I have decided to give it more focus and attention and go serious about trail running.<br />
<br />
So far I have joined few events to get accustomed my legs to the workload. The front runner Valley trail challenge 30km, The first Mt Marami 21km and the recent Conquer Adventure Series in Tanay for 25km.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-91kebt7tEf8/Vfoou2sPYoI/AAAAAAAAKkE/pN7eZW1YROQ/s1600/11866340_1649706651934549_3389386543236770054_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-91kebt7tEf8/Vfoou2sPYoI/AAAAAAAAKkE/pN7eZW1YROQ/s320/11866340_1649706651934549_3389386543236770054_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Picture courtesy of Active Pinas in Mt Marami Summit</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I have so much to learned and to do for me to enjoy trail running pain free and not having difficulty breathing. Of course, practice is the key. Your performance on the trail will always depend on the amount of training you do before the event.<br />
<br />

I am still a newbie , there's still so much to learn and for me to do so, was to get out there and run.<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
Theres a lot of information on the other blogs regarding Mt Timbak and Mt Tabayoc so I will not share something new here. Or maybe just knowing that theres a new view deck on Mt Tabayoc will do.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Few weeks ago my friend Ranger Arlan of Mt Tabayoc texted me, notifying that Mt AL AL will be open to hikers for a few weeks until easter Sunday. I should have been ascended that mountain 2 years ago,however due to the mis-communication with our supposed to be guide the plan did not materialized at that time. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">At the summit of MT AL AL</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I arranged then my team composed of my hiking buddies and new friends, I planned for this adventure immediately. It could be less expensive if we commute from baguio to ballay, however since it will still required us to rent a van because of on-going road repair, we then arranged for our van service. The real advantage of renting a van is we can now include Mt Timbak to our itenerary which is not originally part of the plan. We now have a chance to visit Madam Edna, our host 2 years ago when Errol and I hiked Mt Tabayoc and Mt Timbak. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">At Mt Timbak</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
We arrived in Ballay just before 4pm. We met our host Ranger Arlan and we began our small briefing about the MT AL AL. </div>
<div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The kids of Ballay. Taken at Lake Tabeo</td></tr>

<div>
Before there was a small group of mountaineers lead by Melo ascend the Peak of Mt AL AL without proper coordination to the people who manage the place. Just because they are friends with the local guide and assuming that this guide can cover their assess, They climb the Mt AL-AL. Weeks later they were found out, with proper investigation they are banned from the whole Pulag National Park and the guide who helped them was removed from the guides association in Ballay. Their climb was not recognized whatsoever by the management of Pulag National Park and the local people of ballay. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Going back, since Im strongly against the backdoor mountaineer, I make sure that we do have the proper authority and permission to climb the mountain. I am constantly communication with the park ranger to make sure that everything will go on smoothly as it should. </div>

And the rest as they said was history.. </div>

<div>
Mt AL AL is only open a month before the holy week and will be closed on easter sunday. Please do not set a bad example to other hikers and outdoor enthusiast by hiking the mountain when it is not open. Sure, no one might know, but eventually words will got out and dont risk to be banned in Mt Pulag national park or on any mountain. Hiking the mountain when it is not officially open doesn't proved anything or add anything to your image. Learn to respect the rules and regulations imposed on a particular peak. Someday you will have your chance, just learn to wait.. </div>

The trail was a series of rolling uphill and downhill, inside the forest of kitanglad mountain range. After a few hours of walking we emerged on a clear part of the ridge from there you can see both the peak of Kitanglad and Dulang Dulang.<div>

<span style="font-size: small;">Our hopes for the good weather was suddenly abated. At 3pm the rain started again and it made our ascend to Langkayugan peak challenging. And the plan to camp on that peak was not a good choice as the area was exposed to strong winds and rain. Our guides decide to look for an area inside the forest to be our campsite for the night. We cut the distance from the Langkayugan peak to Mt Maagnaw peak by more than 30mins. At 6pm just before the sun give way to the darkness we arrived on the campsite. Immediately pitch our tent as the rain starting to get intense. We hope for a good weather the next day as we will now close to set foot on top of Mt Maagnaw. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
After a year of waiting we finally nailed to set foot on the mountain that will complete my quest to finished the 9 out of 10 highest mountain in the Philippines.<br />
<br />
We could have finished it last 2013, however due to mis communication we had not. So we need to ascend again Mt Dulang Dulang for the 2nd time. We could have just chosen to just ascend Mt Maagnaw, however since we have days to spend we choose to traversed these two mighty peaks.<br />
<br />
So just a few months after our Kitanglad to Dulang Dulang traversed I already do my assignments of finding the right contact to help us with our Maagnaw Ascend. The climb would have not been possible if not for those people who helped us in every way possible.<br />
<br />
Then the journey begins..<br />
<br />
Day 1<br />
<br />
Arrival in Laguindingan Airport - Proceed to Malaybalay - Spend the night in the house of Kagawad Gola.<br />
<br />
Day 2 - Ritual and Proceed to Jump off<br />
<br />
Most of the morning was spend hearing the wisdom and virtues of Datu Migkatay.<br />
<br />

We reached the campsite amidst of the dark and cold rain at 7pm. We immediately pitch our tent, settle ourselves inside it , trying to get warm.<br />
<br />
At 6am we awoke and gets mesmerized by the mist and beautiful garden of mossy forest.<br />

We are thankful because after the nights incessant rain, we are blessed with the morning sun. We have now a chance to dry our tent and our wet clothes prior to the day's battle. We prepare our breakfast while waiting for our clothes to dry or to just lessen its wetness. At 9am we start our assault to the peak of Mt Dulang Dulang after 45 mins we reached the peak of the 2nd highest mountain of the Phillipines.<div>

And for beginner outdoor enthusiast your choice of gear can spell a sweet adventure, or a nightmare that might put a stop to your next plan get away.<br />
So choosing what you wear and what you bring on your next trip is very important. Some gear can be purchase second hand or trough a ukay store, however some should be purchase new. Your investment in your gear can go a long long way and will surely give you a peace of mind for what ever nature drops at you.<br />
<br />
Shoes - This is the most important gear for beginner hiker, trail runner, or backpacker. You will spend more time walking, hiking or running, so having the right shoes that fits and grips should be your first priority. Yeah, sandals might work for an ideal situation, however for those rocky and muddy trails, some wet roots and grass a nice pair of shoes will give your feet a nice defense against the beatings of the trail. Technically, your shoes is bringing you to your choice destination.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XSfonwSbZc4/VEiAV2W6sFI/AAAAAAAAA5w/srcGfB5yHgs/s1600/shoes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XSfonwSbZc4/VEiAV2W6sFI/AAAAAAAAA5w/srcGfB5yHgs/s1600/shoes.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My Favorite shoes of all time </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Backpacks - If your shoes is bringing you to your adventure, your packs actually carry all your gears and supplies. A good packs can be purchase new or second hand depends on your budget and mentality. Theres a lot of available packs in the market today. Adventurist now have more access to the imported brands than those people who came before them. Before the choices are limited, now your choice can only defined by what you want to spend for your gears.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jB-kzySq-hE/VEiAVBEnu1I/AAAAAAAAA5o/cRAHCPbQUEE/s1600/packs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jB-kzySq-hE/VEiAVBEnu1I/AAAAAAAAA5o/cRAHCPbQUEE/s1600/packs.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Osprey Exos 38</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Daypack - which you can use of course for your dayhikes, trail run, sight seeing, field trip and easy get away. Just choose a size that can carry all you needed for the given trip.<br />
What do you usually bring in your dayhikes ? Set of clothes for return trip, trail foods, headlamp, cap and shades, umbrella or poncho. Normally you dont need a big stuff for this classification.<br />
<br />
Overnight and Multi day hikes - Gone are the days that hikers carry a pack that goes way above their head. Yes, we can still see those what you called hardcores and attention grabber, but if your wise enough and know what your doing, you dont really need 60 liters above for an overnight even for a week climb. It all boils down to what you carry , your choice of available gears and of course your team work. Even though you want to appear and looks tough by being self contained, You dont really need to carry your whole cabinet just to spend an overnight in Pulag, Ugo, Purgatory and most likely in Pico De loro, Batulao, and any nearby mountains.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tiZUoKpFlgg/VEiAVHJe2JI/AAAAAAAAA5k/hP34-lLC6Ps/s1600/packs2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tiZUoKpFlgg/VEiAVHJe2JI/AAAAAAAAA5k/hP34-lLC6Ps/s1600/packs2.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My different packs for different adventures</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
What do you usually bring in an overnight and multidayhikes - Tent can be shared with another person - stove and cookset as well. Clothes for sleeping and for return trip, Your jacket for layering. Cap and shades for sun protection. Your water supply , headlamp, first aid , camera. Many mountaineers I met on the trail have their carry on wallet, sling bag, scarf , and any other fancy clothing and gears that they can get away with. Of course that is your choice, however if you bring a lot of dead weight, it will still be your back and knees that might suffer.<br />
<br />
Tent - this could be the most expensive gear that you might spend on. If your just a beginning your career as a hiker or backpacker, you can get away by sharing it with another persons who have a 2 person tent - there are only few hiker who have a one person tent by the way, so chances are you will have someone to shared it to. Just make sure that you are willing to share the load to. You and your partner can divide the tent , you can bring the poles and pegs, and your partner can bring the tent body and rain fly. Just make sure that you and your partner can hike on the same pace. Imagine if the rain and night catch you and you are far away from each other, You cannot pitch your tent and sheltered from the rain. You get the idea?<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XN9-T_4DTZg/VEiAWpuMDTI/AAAAAAAAA50/WcXzTinnZ-E/s1600/tent.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XN9-T_4DTZg/VEiAWpuMDTI/AAAAAAAAA50/WcXzTinnZ-E/s1600/tent.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">At the aplaya campsite</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Clothes - Each one of us have their favorite clothes when we are outdoors. We all want to look good in the pictures that we can post and share in facebook. We want the best smile and best pose for our profile picture. We can score nice clothes at a price in Rox or any outdoor shop like the north face, columbia, mountain hardware , etc. Some people just used their singlet and finishers shirt for the race that they have participated to. Just wear what you are comfortable at, and what looks good on you. Other things just dont matter.<br />
<br />
Water proof jacket or just plain old poncho ? - You decide, if you have a budget to spend. A water proof jacket will look good on the summit of Mt Pulag and Mt Apo. If you dont have money at the moment - Poncho will do the trick as well. Black trashbag is also a good alternative if your not too concern about how you look. Theres also a lot of second hand waterproof jacket on Ukay that you can find. Make sure you know the right materials to look and your fine.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n7BGUvln1L8/VEiAU6aHyYI/AAAAAAAAA5c/qC2aCN9qsdc/s1600/jacket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n7BGUvln1L8/VEiAU6aHyYI/AAAAAAAAA5c/qC2aCN9qsdc/s1600/jacket.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My outer shell</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Facebook have a lot of sellers of outdoor gears , you can find your dream item for a price there.<br />
<br />
So if your a regular and serious hiker you can start investing for the gear that help you summit the mountain tops you dreamed of.<br />
<br />
If you are just a weekend warrior or just want to test the water before you venture to the unknown , you can start by just borrowing or sharing gears from other people.<br />

This action arouse the interest of many waiting to set foot in Mt Halcon. That time finding the right contacts who can help you organize a climb proved to be difficult. For every hikers and trail runners , to have the right shoes is very important and crucial to finish the hike or the race with great satisfaction or dismay. To have just the regular cuts and bruises over the more painful blisters and dead nails. <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Just purchase from Aktiv Trinoma<br /><div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">To find the right shoes that fits and feels comfortable is one thing and to find the shoes that will help you ascend and descend without landing in your butt is also another. For us, we are too attached to brand and some marketing advertisement, we most likely to purchase the most expensive shoes we can find hoping that it will help us with our goal, for some people especially the new or beginner hikers they used merrel- because they might read it on pinoy mountaineers. Cant blame them, for I have used merrell also on my first year of hiking, only to find out that the grips and traction is not enough for the muddy, roots and slippery trails that we have. For my second year of hiking I purchase Teva forge pro and just a few months, the columbia master of faster, they are much better than my Merrell, however Im still looking for something more. More grip over the slimy mud and rocks, wet leaves, loose soil, etc. Then I found out to my research the brand Inov-8 and I was in love with the model rocklite 295.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">The model itself says it was only 295 grams and what I love more about the shoes is the outsole. If you check the lugs was deep and evenly space so that it can grip even the muddiest trail you can imagine. It also have a glow in the dark lining for added visibility. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: small;">I have used this shoes for some of the most unforgiving mountain terrain, to the deep forest of Mt Talomo to the rocks of Mt Apo. To the wet and wild trails of Mt Kalatungan, Dulang Dulang , Kitanglad, Mt Lumot, Sicapoo, and most recently in Mount Halcon.</span></div>

Just hoping you can stil find the same models, because Inov-8 just release a new update version of the rocklite 295.</div>

If the only trail you run and hike is just miyamit and nuvali - I suggest you get out more..The trail there is just easy you can hike and run there with just your regular running shoes. </div>

Ive been wanting to experience the trail to Mt Mariveles peak via paniquian river for months. Just like Mt Palali, this peak is always elusive. Something always happen to abort the hike. This time with the right group of people and with strong determination and luck, We finally nailed it. We did the Tarak Circuit Loop.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y8pRtuKEmf8/U2B-iW2OVHI/AAAAAAAAA1M/GwbT2Bp0Pt8/s1600/IMG_1773.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Y8pRtuKEmf8/U2B-iW2OVHI/AAAAAAAAA1M/GwbT2Bp0Pt8/s1600/IMG_1773.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The start of the cogon grass trail to paniquian river</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The climb was made possible by Team Look up and our guide Bernie ,and our driver Mac. The traverse or loop was possible for a dayhike via commute if your climbing with veterans and strong hikers. For newbie and not so strong and your at least 10, It would be better if you can rent a service. That way , the transportation going back home should not be a problem in case you experience some delays.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TlTjCrryaXk/U2B-iaTYOrI/AAAAAAAAA1I/belSlPOn4hY/s1600/IMG_1800.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TlTjCrryaXk/U2B-iaTYOrI/AAAAAAAAA1I/belSlPOn4hY/s1600/IMG_1800.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Entry to Paniquian River on top of Paniquian waterfalls</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The trail was not that difficult if you are an experienced hiker, but for the new ones, of course it would be a challenge for them. From the paniquian river you need to walk on rocks so maintain your balance, one slip and who knows what would happened. From the falls the trail was all uphell with some bouldering along the way at least it was forested to help you with the heat. The final stretch to the summit more like 10 to 15 minutes open trail. You can sea the entire mariveles sea at the background. From the summit you can either pass in El Saco Peak or back trail a little then turn left to the tarakridge.<br />

<br />
Mt Manabu to Biak na Bundok to Mt Manabu Jump off via hidden trail<br />
<br />
For the past months , Ive been hiking with my new found group that was not so veterans yet in terms of hiking experience. And they gave me some contentment and new found wisdom in my hiking sense. Climbing with veterans is another experience, you will not worried that much with your companion because you know that they know what they're doing and can finish the trek without much issue. However with the group of newbie, the experience is totally different. You need to look on each and everyone of them and see if they need rest, if they can still continue, which one is having problems with his/her load. Being a climb leader for two different groups means you need to adapt with different persons and situations, and that will make you more matured and somehow be a better version of you.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mt Manabu Summit</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
The initial plan was to traverse the Manabu to Malipunyo. However , I have not been climbing with the group that I will lead before. So I set up their expectations that we will hike to Mt Manabu first, once we reached the summit, will check if they can still continue to hike for 5 to 7 hours to complete the traverse. I reached out to my friend Mario the reliable guide of Malipunyo traverse and told him the plan. He suggested that we can push until biak na bundok and they made a circuit back to Manabu jump off without doing a back trail . We like the idea, and for the first time we do the Manabu circuit loop.<br />

What we did is that we traverse Kanlaon in 2 days , we ascend to the peak on the day we arrived in Canlaon City. Then we descend the next day, rest in basecamp, wait for the first trip going to dumaguete, meet the guide and start our journey to traverse Mt Talinis.<br />

</tbody></table>
Theres 4 recorded trails going to the crater of Mt Pinatubo, One in Capas Tarlac for those who wants to have an easy trek, Delta - 5, Sapang Uwak and the trail coming from Zambales.<br />
<br />
The trail that we used was the Sapang Uwak trail , the same route for the ultra running event the CM50, and going to Miyamit falls. The trail was wide open going to view deck then slowly began to narrow into a single file trail going to campsite 1 and campsite 2. So it would be better to start you itenary as early as possible.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-46q_3DLiZk4/UvnWf63ltSI/AAAAAAAAAw8/GJ1YPt9heWo/s1600/IMG_0821.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-46q_3DLiZk4/UvnWf63ltSI/AAAAAAAAAw8/GJ1YPt9heWo/s1600/IMG_0821.JPG" height="239" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Start of the hike. First of many assault</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
If you want to do it via commute, from cubao ride bus going to north , go down in Dau Terminal, ride jeep going to Angeles, ask the driver to drop you off at nepo mart , from nepo mark look for tricycle going to sapang uwak.<br />
<br />
If your going to rent your service, go to sctex, exit at porac, turn right at alviera land, turn right again into the first tunnel, turn left, then proceed to the next tunnel. There will be a checkpoint so better prepare your permit coming from the municipality of porac.<br />
<br />
From the jump off point to the view deck, it will take at least 4 - 5 hours hike in a relax pace. It is just a straightforward trail with its own up and down with no shade. From the view deck, it will take 2 hours to campsite and there's a fresh and cold water source nearby. The assaut to the summit where you can view the crater will take 3-4 hours from the campsite and there will be no water source so bring at least 3 liters each , leave the 2 liters on the trail so that you'll have something to drink on your way back, when the sun catches up on you.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">5 mins rest</td></tr>

Always start as early as possible to avoid being to baked in the Sun. And remember there's no restroom in Sapang Uwak,do your thing off the trail. Water is very scarce. From the last water source please carry enough water for your needs and for you wash up later when you come back at the jump off. <br />

Its now time to look back on some things that I was able to accomplish this year, before welcoming the 2014 with a bang!!<br />
<br />
I was able to set foot on some of the major peak this year, Sicapoo, Tabayoc, Kibungan, Dulang and Kitanglad, and Mt Pulag.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fiNcNUs2LUk/UsIi9YlKSyI/AAAAAAAAAwI/B1AX3lZo04Q/s1600/544163_440883889326305_1200404565_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fiNcNUs2LUk/UsIi9YlKSyI/AAAAAAAAAwI/B1AX3lZo04Q/s320/544163_440883889326305_1200404565_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">In Sicapoo</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Early in my hiking career, I made peace with myself that I will not able to complete all the mountains listed in Pinoy mountaineer. I do not have the means and the time to be able to do that. I belong to the working class people with just two days per week off. With the little time and means I have, I will just try to set foot on the mountains which I deemed worthy with little means I have.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DJYUdmygTPo/UsIjGxOfs4I/AAAAAAAAAwU/92GVgNZn3Xw/s1600/SAM_0942.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DJYUdmygTPo/UsIjGxOfs4I/AAAAAAAAAwU/92GVgNZn3Xw/s320/SAM_0942.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mt Tabayoc Forest</td></tr>

Having made peace with myself and accepted my state in life early on, save me from being envious of what other climbers have accomplished. And was able to save myself from feeling of want and unsatisfied desire and heartbreaks from not being able to climb all mountains in Pinoy Mountaineer's list. <br />

Some of them can do a hike every week, some of them was able to accomplished having to summit all 9/9 level of difficulty. Some was able to hike outside the country. And they are might proud of their accomplishment as you can see it on their facebook page. Sometimes I wonder what kind of work they are doing that they are able to climb multiple days at least once a month, or able to do overnight climb every week. Of course , that would be a different story if your a rich kid and have someone you can ask money for or and wait for your monthly or weekly allowance. In my case, I need to work hard and just wait for my salary and save for the climb. You see, all my climbs and gears came from working my asses in a BPO company.<br />

Another year had passed, Another year will come. One thing for sure, I will still hike and just be contend with whatever I will accomplish this coming year.<br />
And will be forever thankful to Almighy God for giving me the strength to accomplish my hearts desire.<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;">To
be able to climb multiple peaks simultaneously is a great achievement
for any hiker. Thus to be able to climb the 3 highest peak of luzon, Mt
Pulag, Mt Tabayoc and Mt timbak brings great pride and sense of
accomplishment
to whoever successfuly climb these giants. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;">
</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;">
</span></span>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;">However in the past few
years, almost everybody are doing it. Climbing and Organizing Massive
climb for what they have called Luzon 321. They start in Mt timbak to Mt
tabayoc and ends up to the most prized of them
all Mt pulag- the third highest peak in the Phillipines and the home of
the famous sea of clouds.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;"><br /></span></span>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7s_fwOF7IeA/UrFdFLcoRrI/AAAAAAAAAvw/MGsEOnbG9vc/s1600/timbak.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7s_fwOF7IeA/UrFdFLcoRrI/AAAAAAAAAvw/MGsEOnbG9vc/s1600/timbak.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Group at Mt Timbak Jump off</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;">
</span></span>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Tahoma;">
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
The organizers rented a jeep
to pick them at Baguio then it will bring them to mongoto school and
then they will start their hike up to MT Timbak, after that they will
board again the monster jeep this time they will
proceed to Lake tabeo in Ballay. The next morning they will hike up to
Mt Tabayoc summit, go down , board the jeep again and proceed to
tawangan where they going to camp for the night and there they will
start their Mt Pulag entry. After camping in saddle campsite,
they will exit in Ambangeg and once again they will board their rented
jeep to take them to Baguio city.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
You see, they save a lot of
walking hours by renting the jeep and the challenge and difficulty of
the climb is lessen, its become too convenient thats why everybody are
doing it.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Now comes the twist, and we called it the Luzon 312.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NFiQkC6zQnE/UrFdEU-KySI/AAAAAAAAAvg/WSFhvoKARj0/s1600/timbak+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NFiQkC6zQnE/UrFdEU-KySI/AAAAAAAAAvg/WSFhvoKARj0/s1600/timbak+2.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Mt Timbak Summit</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
The plan was to finish the 3 mighty peaks without renting a jeep. and It will be a pure walkathon up to the end.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
The plan was from Baguio
board the bus to the Jump off of Mt Timbak, proceed by foot to kabayan
central, walk all the way to the jump off of Mt Pulag. Ascend the peak
via akiki trail then descend to tawangan</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
then walk uup to 6 hours to
lake tabeo and camp there . The next morning that will be the start of
ascend to Mt Tabayoc then before 12pm proceed to kabayan central by
habal habal and ride the van to baguio.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
This idea is much more difficult than the traditional Luzon 321.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
I started to coordinate my
plan to Madam mering, Ranger Heron of Akiki and Ranger Arlan of tabayoc
and teddy - guide of Mt pulag to Tawangan trail.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7WWTOz6RbZ0/UrFdFiu7IvI/AAAAAAAAAv0/Don_91Z43mI/s1600/trail+to+kabayan+bario.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7WWTOz6RbZ0/UrFdFiu7IvI/AAAAAAAAAv0/Don_91Z43mI/s1600/trail+to+kabayan+bario.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">From Mt Timbak to Kabayan Bario Trail</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
And I assemble a 7 man team for this journey. They were my friends and hiking buddy and they are strong climber as I must say.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
However due to family emergency - and to my deepest regret , I was not able to participate to the climb that I designed.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Let me just share to you how it can be done.<br />
